Cadillac $76,000 ELR electric coupe sales slated for January
The 2014 Cadillac ELR electrified luxury coupe is slated for release in January next year, with an initial starting price of $75,995.
The automaker announced on Monday that its latest luxury electric vehicle, the 2014 ELR, will be available at dealerships early next year. The EV combines electric power with a long range through a 1.4L gasoline-powered electric generator and a T-shaped, 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack located along the centerline of the vehicle to assist with weight distribution and efficiency.
The car is capable of a total driving range in excess of 300 miles. Using only the energy stored in the battery, the ELR's initial range is about 35 highway miles, or 82 MPGe, of electric driving. Official EPA estimates are not yet available.
The ELR comes with a price tag starting at $75,995, including a $995 destination charge but excluding tax, title, license and dealer fees. Purchasers may be eligible for a tax credit from $0 to $7,500 depending on individual tax liability, and net pricing after tax credits could be as low as $68,495, including the $995 destination charge.
For comparison, the much-loved Tesla S, an all-electric luxury vehicle with a range of somewhere north of 200 miles, has a base price of $70,000 before any tax credits. It's admired in the U.S., if still aspirational for many, but it's huge in Norway where it will be unlikely to face competition from the ELR, for a while anyway.
