Bacon shaving cream comes to market

By | December 5, 2012, 10:36 AM PST

For J&D’s Foods founders Justin Esch and Dave Lefkow, nothing is more powerful or captivating than the smell of bacon.

So, it’s perfectly reasonable for the makers of Bacon Salt, Bacon Pop and Baconnaise to challenge meat’s long-established place in the world and bring the flavor of bacon to non-food products, like envelopes, lip balm, lube and now, shaving cream.

The shaving cream has an advanced heat-activated aromatic technology that “lasts for hours and delivers maximum bacon scent when you need it most,” according to the Seattle-based company.

J&D’s Foods has been known for playing pranks, some of which, like bacon coffins, evolved into real products. In this case, the company’s bacon shaving cream is real–and proving to be a popular Christmas present. The first batch of the “high-end, luxurious bacon-scented shaving cream for all skin types” is already sold out.

Not to worry though, a second batch of this limited edition product is in the works and can be shipped to customers by December 19.

While bacon-scented shaving cream might be new, the use of animal fats in beauty products is not. Tallow, the hard fat from sheep and cattle, is used in soaps, among other products.
