An ultra high-tech bike locker

You'll be jealous your city doesn't have this amazing bicycle locker.

Bicycle racks work just fine in places where cyclists aren't in the majority. But as biking becomes a more popular way to get around cities it's increasingly important to find better ways of storing them. Just ask Amsterdam which is investing millions of dollars in new bicycle parking areas to meet demand (wow).

The City Fix blog brings to our attention one high-tech option for bicycle storage.

The Biceberg is an unassuming box in high-traffic biking areas that looks more like an oversized ATM. But there's much more to it. The City Fix explains how it works:

[T]he Biceberg’s compartively small footprint on the street hides the storage facilities built below the surface. To store your bike and accompanying gear, registered users insert their membership cards and recall their cycles from the Earth like a parker at a double decker car garage -or a reserved book from a library.

Each unit can hold 92 bikes (plus your biking equipment). See it for yourself:

The amazing thing isn't that your bike will be a lot more secure (though that's good too), but the fact that The Biceberg has been around since 1994 and is now becoming more popular as bikes do the same.
