IBM Corp. (NYSE:IBM) Friday named Rod Smith as its new vice president of Java, replacing Pat Sueltz who joined Sun Microsystems in September. Smith was IBM's chief technology officer for Java and has worked closely with Sun (Nasdaq:SUNW), especially on embedded Java where standards are not yet established.
