No one, Microsoft included, would dispute charges that the Redmond, Wash., software giant is a fierce competitor. In fact, there are a number of different teams throughout Microsoft (msft) whose primary missions are to study and take on its foremost rivals. Microsoft Group Product Manager Doug Miller heads one such unit: the one that watches Linux, Unix and NetWare.
