Carnegie Mellon's flying robots could assist firefighters in search and rescue

Pei Zhang, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, is working on a mobile-sensor network that could send swarms of tiny helicopters into a building. The robotic helicopters are equipped with radios, gyroscopes, and compasses, so they can sense each other and objects around them. While the project is still in the very early stages of research and development, Zhang hopes one day firefighters could use the robotic helicopters for search and rescue.
